sound sculpture and fixed media
2025

“Hammer auf Metall” (“Hammer on Metal”) reflects the metalworking industry of the Traisen-Gölsental region and the community that gives it form. The work takes leftover materials and production waste to create a sound sculpture that functions both as artwork and instrument.
Metal fragments hanging from the wooden structure are struck with small hammers, producing sustained, layered tones with a bell-like quality. In the factory, these sounds are often lost amid machinery noise and dismissed as clatter.
“Hammer auf Metall” invites reflection on the musicality found in industrial noise, offering a space for the public to explore these discarded materials through sound and reconsider their meaning.
“Hammer auf Metall und andere Erinnerungen” (Hammer on metal and other memories) is a fixed media sound work that reflects on the topic based on interviews of the HAMMER_WERK_STÄTTEN and the visits to gather material in the factories Georg Fischer and Neuman Aluminium. The sound work results as an introspective reflection of the stories both in the work and in the daily lives of the people working in the factories.
