I am often surprised by the moments, scenes and activities of the day-to-day. It is in this unremarkable, less-noticeable gestures and actions, filled with delicate images and sounds, where I find the subject for my pieces.

Biography

Roberta Lazo Valenzuela is a Chilean composer and visual artist living in Austria.

Her work encompasses a variety of media including music, sound art, installation, video, animation and painting. The themes of her pieces often deal with portraying and highlighting the intricacies of daily life, drawing attention to the things hidden in the repetitive and trivial activities of everyday life.

After completing her bachelor's degree in composition and working on various music and art projects, she migrated to Europe, where she first lived in Germany and later in Austria. In 2018 she completed a Master in Composition in Linz and started a second Master in TransArts at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. In 2021 she realizes an ERASMUS semester at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts and finishes her studies in Fine Arts. In 2022 she received the State Scholarship for Composition 2022 from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport.

As a composer in contemporary music, she has participated in various festivals and has worked with distinguished ensembles like Airborne Extended, Ensemble Phoenix, Ensemble Recherche, Ensemble Tøyen Fil og Klafferi and Ensemble Platypus, among others.

Parallel to this line of work, Lazo participates in a series of projects as a singer. In the recent years, her composition and singing have come together in a number of projects, including the release of 3 albums and solo live performances.

She has expanded her artistic practice into the visual art scene with works that create a dialogue between the visual and the musical. This interest for both worlds led her to gradually generate a body of visual works autonomous from sound.

Her music and visual work have been performed, exhibited and/or released in Austria, Germany, Norway, Romania, Latvia, Croatia, Chile, Switzerland, Spain and Ireland.

Roberta Lazo Valenzuela ist eine chilenische Komponistin und bildende Künstlerin, die in Österreich lebt.

Ihre Arbeit umfasst eine Vielzahl von Medien wie Musik, Sound Art, Installation, Video, Animation und Malerei. Die Themen ihrer Stücke beschäftigen sich oft mit den Feinheiten des täglichen Lebens. Sie versucht die Aufmerksamkeit auf Dinge zu richten, die in den sich wiederholenden und trivialen Tätigkeiten des Alltags verborgen sind.

Nach ihrem Bachelor-Abschluss in Komposition und der Arbeit an verschiedenen Musik- und Kunstprojekten wanderte sie nach Europa aus, wo sie zunächst in Deutschland und später in Österreich lebte. Im Jahr 2018 schloss sie einen Master in Komposition in Linz bei Prof. Carola Bauckholt ab und begann einen zweiten Master in TransArts an der Universität für Angewandte Kunst in Wien. In 2021 macht sie ein Austauschsemester in Norwegen an der Oslo National Academy of the Arts und beendet ihr Studium in Bildende Kunst. Im Jahr 2022 erhielt sie das Staatsstipendium für Komposition 2022 des Bundesministeriums für Kunst, Kultur, Öffentlichen Dienst und Sport (Österreich).

Als Komponistin im Bereich der zeitgenössischen Musik hat sie an verschiedenen Festivals teilgenommen und mit renommierten Ensembles gearbeitet: Airborne Extended, Ensemble Phoenix, Ensemble Recherche, Ensemble Tøyen Fil og Klafferi und Ensemble Platypus, um nur einige zu nennen.

Parallel zu dieser Arbeit nimmt Lazo an einer Reihe von Projekten als Sängerin. In den letzten Jahren haben sich ihre Komposition und ihr Gesang in einer Reihe von Projekten vereint, darunter die Veröffentlichung von drei Alben und Solo-Live-Performances.

Sie hat ihre künstlerische Praxis auf die visuelle Kunstszene ausgeweitet, mit Werken, die einen Dialog zwischen dem Visuellen und dem Musikalischen schaffen. Dieses Interesse für beide Welten führte dazu, dass sie eine Reihe von visuellen Werken entwickelte, die unabhängig vom Klang sind.

Ihre musikalischen und visuellen Arbeiten wurden in Österreich, Deutschland, Norwegen, Rumänien, Lettland, Kroatien, Chile, der Schweiz, Spanien und Irland aufgeführt, ausgestellt und/oder aufgeführt.

Roberta Lazo Valenzuela es una compositora y artista visual chilena, actualmente residiendo en Austria.

En 2018 completa un Máster en Composición en Linz y comienza un segundo Máster en TransArts en la Universidad de Artes Aplicadas de Viena. En 2021 realiza un semestre ERASMUS en la Academia Nacional de las Artes de Oslo y finaliza sus estudios en Artes Visuales. En 2022, recibió la Beca Estatal para Composición 2022 del Ministerio Federal de Arte, Cultura, Servicio Público y Deporte (Austria).

Como compositora, ha participado en varios festivales y ha trabajado con destacados ensambles como Airborne Extended, Ensemble Phoenix, Ensemble Recherche, Ensemble Tøyen Fil og Klafferi y Ensemble Platypus, entre otros.

En paralelo a esta línea de trabajo, Lazo participa en una serie de proyectos como cantante. En los últimos años, la composición y el canto se han unido en una serie de proyectos, que incluyen la publicación de 3 álbumes y conciertos como solista.

Lazo ha ampliado su práctica artística al ámbito de las artes visuales, con obras que crean un diálogo entre lo visual y lo musical. Este interés por ambos mundos la llevó a desarrollar una serie de obras visuales independientes del sonido.

Su música y su obra visual se han interpretado y/o exhibido en Austria, Alemania, Noruega, Rumanía, Letonia, Croacia, Chile, Suiza, España e Irlanda.
