“Inside, Outwards and Back Within” is part of MUME’s annual program on memory and the right to be forgotten. The performance was conceived by Roberta Lazo Valenzuela (CL) and is presented in collaboration with Rosa Fuerpass-Netocny (AT). In her performance, Roberta Lazo crochets threads reminiscent of organs while vocalizing songs of solace and belonging to mothers. In doing so, she unsettles the romanticized narrative of pregnancy and reveals the body as a vessel of both individual and collective memory.This body, oriented toward the functionality of nurturing a new other, later faces the grief of emptiness after having been occupied. Drawing from her personal experience, Lazo asks: How does this experience transform the relationship with one’s own body and identity? How does one reconnect with external normality and the surrounding world afterward? What memories are preserved, and what forgettings are set into motion? Inevitably, her proposal also alludes to the artist-as-vessel who, by hosting and nourishing, becomes filled and emptied, constantly deconstructing and reinventing.

MUME (Museo Mexicano/Mexican Museum) is a nomadic anti-museum founded by Oscar Cueto to provoke new narratives within the context of evolving geopolitical changes and global migration. It invites international cultural workers to present collaborative projects in Austria. Each new MUME venue is chosen according to the needs of each project, which are organized in series to delve into current issues from different artistic positions. Under the idea of a nomadic anti-museum, this project aims to collaborate with those who work on the margins of ethnic, social, geographical, economic or political privileges to dismantle outdated notions, reimagine the function of institutions, the classic roles of art, break vertical hierarchies and distance themselves from dominant strategies and art as an economic utility.

MUME (Museo Mexicano / Mexicanisches Museum) ist ein nomadisches Anti-Museum, das von Oscar Cueto gegründet wurde, um neue Narrative im Kontext sich verändernder geopolitischer Entwicklungen und globaler Migration zu provozieren. Es lädt internationale Kulturschaffende ein, kollaborative Projekte in Österreich zu präsentieren. „Inside, Outwards and Back Within“ ist Teil des jährlichen MUME-Programms zum Thema Erinnerung und Recht auf Vergessen und wird von Roberta Lazo Valenzuela (CL) in Zusammenarbeit mit Rosa Fürpaß-Netočný (AT) präsentiert.
In ihrer Performance häckelt Roberta Lazo Wollfäden, die an Organe erinnern und vokalisiert Lieder der Geborgenheit zur Beruhigung der Mütter. Dabei destabilisiert sie das romantische Narrativ der Schwangerschaft und zeigt den Körper als Gefäß individueller und kollektiver Erinnerung. Dieser Körper richtet seine Funktionalität auf ein neues Anderes aus, um anschließend die Trauer der Leere zu erleben, nachdem er besetzt war. Ausgehend von ihrer persönlichen Erfahrung fragt sich Lazo: Wie verändert dieses Erleben die Beziehung zum eigenen Körper und zur Identität? Wie gelingt es, nach dem Ereignis wieder in Beziehung zu äußerer Normalität und zur Umwelt zu treten? Welche Erinnerungen bleiben erhalten, und welche Mechanismen des Vergessens werden aktiviert? Unweigerlich verweist ihr Ansatz auch auf den/die Künstler:in als Gefäß, das durch das Aufnehmen und Nähren gefüllt und geleert wird sich fortwährend dekonstruierend und neu erfindend.
